My Trip to Alameda, CA: Day 1

Drove to the San Francisco area today at 10 AM, instead of 5 AM like I was planning to.  I got to Alameda in about 5 1/2 hours.  Not too bad.  Parking at my parents’ place sucks.  I need to ride my Razor scooter to and from my car otherwise it would take me forever to walk the distance.

The two people I know in the Bay area were busy.  One was on his way to Santa Barbara and so I won’t see him at all.  The other was about to attend the GayVN awards.  Maybe I’ll see her before I go back to L.A. on Monday.

I tried to see Cloverfield at a movie theatre in Berkeley, but read the movie times wrong.  I didn’t feel like waiting an additional hour to see the movie, so I went to a coffee shop on Shuttay or Shuckley or something like that.  I had a 2 dollar house coffee and read a little bit.  Before that I got a couple street maps of Berkeley and San Fran from some bookstore nearby.

On the way home, I got lost and ended up driving back towards Los Angeles some how.  Well, I didn’t get far before realizing I missed my exit.  Then I got lost some more and eventually figured out the way back to my parents’ place.

Berkeley reminded me of Boston with the one way streets and small shops.  It’s not as gentrified as L.A. and not as dirty as New York.  But for some reason I still prefer L.A. even though I hated the city the first 3-4 years I lived there.  Maybe if I gave Berkeley enough time, I would prefer it over L.A.
